Contributing to the Area's Urban Renewal
Current and upcoming development within the Australian Technology Park creates a significant opportunity for the Redfern-Waterloo community to both contribute to and benefit from the area’s continuing urban renewal.
The introduction by the Redfern Waterloo Authority of an Indigenous Employment Model encourages indigenous job placement and training in the local construction industry. This innovative model has been enthusiastically embraced by contractors and sub-contractors within the area, by developers within Park and by the local community.
Over 30 indigenous positions were created during construction of the National Information & Communications Technology Australia (NICTA) facility in 2007. This figure doubled to over 60 indigenous positions being allocated to coincide with the commencement of construction for the new Media Centre in 2008, the building of which will continue well in to 2010.
If you’d like any further information about the Indigenous Employment Model, please contact Denny Hall or Louise Wagner at the RWA on (02) 9202 9100.
